At a tender age of five, I was enamored by Indian dances. My family who were very supportive of my passion for dance, made every effort to promote my interest. My first teachers were my father and mother. My mother being an accomplished Veena player, sang songs for which my father will explain the meaning to me and I would make my own dance to the tune.  My first master under whom I started my Bharatnatyam training was Sukumaran Pillai.  I began giving performances at different occasions at the age of nine.  One of my favorite dances was the “Peacock dance”!

I began my formal training under the tutelage of  Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai in Chennai and my  Arrangetram was done in Chennai and the chief guest was the famous movie director Shantharam.
